The dry electrode process is a new manufacturing process for lithium-ion batteries Electrode Preparation, which does not use solvents in the electrode manufacturing process. Usually, the positive/negative active substances, conductive agents, and solid binders are directly mixed and sprayed onto the collector, or a self-supporting film is made through different processes and then compounded with the collector. This process does not use a large amount of organic solvents, which is beneficial for extending the capacity and cycle life of the battery.
Dry Electrode Manufacturing Process
The dry process directly fibers solid binders into a three-dimensional mesh-like structure, providing bonding functionality and enabling the formation of self-supporting films. Compared with traditional wet processes, it offers significant advantages in terms of environmental friendliness, cost efficiency, and performance optimization.
Dry Process Material Systems
Anode Materials:
Materials such as graphite and silicon-carbon composites benefit from the dry process, which helps address issues like powder shedding, thereby improving cycling stability.
Cathode Materials:
For materials like NCM (Nickel Cobalt Manganese) and LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate), the dry process enhances compaction density and electrical conductivity.
Next-Generation Materials:
Emerging materials such as solid-state electrolytes and sulfide-based cathodes gain a new manufacturing pathway through the dry electrode process.
